Quilting Natural Florida II

February 6 thru April 25, 2010

The Quilters of Alachua County Day Guild (QACDG), in conjunction with the Florida Museum of Natural History, sponsored the Second Quilting Natural Florida exhibit February 6 thru April 25, 2010.

Over 100 quilts were shown at the museum. Entries were received from 28 states and one foreign country. The quilts exhibited represented a variety of flora and fauna of Florida as well as Florida landscapes. Quilting styles ranged from art quilts to traditional quilts to abstract quilts.

Members of QACDG have put together a stunning appliqué quilt of Florida birds and water creatures. This quilt was the featured exhibit quilt . Blocks for the quilt were originally designed by Judy Egan and Jan Aronson of the Venice (FL)Area Quilters Guild.  With their permission, ten members of the Quilters of Alachua County Day Guild adapted the flora and fauna in each block as necessary to provide an accurate representation of those naturally occurring in Florida. The blocks and border of the quilt were hand-appliquéd by the ten QACDG members, and the machine quilting was done by another QACDG member.

The quilt is currently offered for sale. Click on this link to contact QACDG and get more information.
