WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE GUILD AUGUST BIRTHDAY PARTY?

  1. SEWING MACHINE RAFFLE
GET YOUR tickets for the Janome Sewing Machine raffle from Helene Rhine – winner will be announced at the birthday party.

  1. BRING YOUR LOTTERY BLOCKS:
    See instructions here

  1. GIVE A GIFT OF LOVE:
Bring a small quilt or teddy bear for the Community Service Quilts program.

  1. POSTCARDS:
We’re having a challenge that everybody can get in on, have some fun with, and get done in the time available.  (A postcard is a fabric front, stiff middle, back that can be written on for addressing; embellish any way you want!)  The theme is “Happy Birthday!”  To take part, make at least one postcard.  You can make as many as three if you like.  You can trade them with others, or you can keep what you’ve made for yourself, or some combination.  Don’t mail them, but bring them to the August meeting.  Viewers’ choice wins a prize.

Here are some websites with instructions on making postcards:  http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpatternsprojects/ss/fabric_postcard.htm

  1. IDENTITY CHALLENGE!
Bring in a photo of yourself when you were just a wee one.  (Don’t show it to anybody, though!)  We’ll set them all up, then see how many of you can identify your younger selves.  (Of course there’s a prize!)

  1. HOW OLD CAN YOU GO?
What is the oldest sewing, quilting or craft project still in your possession, or that you can lay your hands on?  BRING IT in August!  Put the name of the project, your name, when it was made, and a little bit about it on a card.  We’ll have a display of everyone’s crudest . . . er . . . earliest efforts.  And in case you’re worried, remember, “The Wright Brothers’ first plane wasn’t a whole lot to write home about either!”  Will there be a prize for the oldest item?  OF COURSE!

  1. REPURPOSING UNIQUE NOTIONS:

We all have those items that didn’t come from the quilt shop, that we use every day to make our sewing and quilting lives a bit easier.  We’ll have a batch of these, and you’ll guess how they might be repurposed in the sewing room.  Guess well.  There’s a prize!

  1. SHOW & TELL

Absolutely! Bring it on!!

  1. GAMES, FUN, FOOD:
Bring yourself and have a wonderful birthday party with us!!

And that’s just the start of this celebration!  The rest?  It’s a surprise, of course!  The August 7th QACDG meeting is going to be a LOT of FUN!  Don’t be a party pooper!  Be there!
